Popular holiday favourite offered on December 21st
Music and Beyond is pleased to announce the program for their annual holiday favourite, Christmas with Music and Beyond.
Several of Canada's top instrumentalists will be joined by Quebec soprano Myriam Leblanc, the Ottawa Children's Choir and, as a very special seasonal treat, the harp ensemble from École secondaire De La Salle. Almost 70 performers will celebrate the spirit of the holiday season and the winter solstice with the music of Bach, Handel, Schubert, Manfredini, Berlioz, Holst, Gruber, Herbert, Mel Tormé as well as with an assortment of traditional carols. This concert will offer a wide variety of festive concert music and seasonal favourites. Proceeds from the concert support Music and Beyond's young people's programming.
Christmas with Music and Beyond begins at 7:30 p.m. on December 21st at Dominion-Chalmers United Church.
"I always look forward to our Christmas concert every year" states artistic director Julian Armour. "We try to include a huge amount of variety and offer a concert that will be loved by both the most die-hard music lovers and by people who are attending a concert for the very first time. As always, this concert features some of the best-loved works from the concert repertoire, many hidden gems, and great Christmas favourites. We have always had a lot of variety on our Christmas show but, for this year, I think we are really taking it to a new level!"
Front and centre will be the spectacular young Québec soprano Myriam Leblanc, who starred to tremendous critical acclaim as Gilda in the Opéra de Montréal's production of Rigoletto in September 2018.
Nine top Canadian instrumentalists will share the stage including violinist Marc Djokic, who recently won the Prix Goyer, the largest classical music prize in Canada; violinist Yolanda Bruno, who will be performing on the exquisite Taft Stradivarius violin, provided to her by the Canada Council for the Arts; violist Carolyn Farnand, a rising star who was recently invited by the Canadian Opera Company to join the Artists of the COC Orchestra Academy ; cellist Julian Armour, who was named the Order of Ottawa in November; double bassist John Geggie, well-loved by classical and jazz fans alike; Juno-nominated harpist harpist Caroline Léonardelli; pianist, harpsichord Frédéric Lacroix; flutist Lara Deutsch, who was named one of 2015's "Hot 30 Under 30 Canadian Classical Musicians" by CBC Music; flutistDakota Martin, an Ottawa native who has performed with orchestras in Canada, Europe and the Far East. Also performing will be the Ottawa Children's Choir directed by Allison Prowse, and the Senior Harp Ensemble from École secondaire De La Salle. As an added special treat to gifted young musicians from the Ottawa area, violinist Natalie Paravalos and pianist Francis Armour, both 11 years old, will perform with the others in Bach-Gounod's Ave Maria.
A video recording of one of the pieces performed at last year's Christmas with Music and Beyond went viral and, so far, has been seen by over 3 million people around the world.
Tickets to Christmas with Music and Beyond are available online at www.musicandbeyond.ca, and at Music and Beyond's office at 51 William St in the ByWard Market. Tickets are $30 for adults, $15 for students, and $50 for reserved section seating. Family tickets are offered at the low price of $65 for a family of four and $70 for a family of five.
