OST invites you to the Ottawa premiere of Rosalee Peppard's Living TitanicOttawa StoryTellers is proud to present an original show by Maritimer Rosalee Peppard. An oral historian and musician, Peppard brings to life the true story of a strong-willed young woman who faces death on the Titanic as that famous ship makes its fated voyage to the bottom of the sea. Though it sank well over 100 years ago, stories of Titanic survivors still commands our attention. It's a particularly pertinent story for Ottawa audiences, being the story of a Canadian survivor. Peppard joins Ottawa StoryTellers for the Speaking Out/Speaking In series at the NAC on February 11, 2016, and will accompany her original songs on the acoustic & classical guitar, as well as the mountain dulcimer. Part musical memoir, part storytelling, Peppard's Living Titanic introduces us to passenger, and bride-to-be, Hilda Mary Slayter, as she boards the Titanic, unknowingly headed for a cold North Atlantic destiny that will prove her greatest trial. Living Titanic is an unforgettable tale of survival from the diaries of a famous Haligonian who escaped one of history’s most famous marine disasters. Inspired by her upbringing and based on the Maritime "environment, sea culture, agriculture, fishing, small communities working and surviving together to make a living and life that transcends generations," Peppard says, adding that the performance will lend an important cultural tone to this tale of the sea. Living Titanic is the third production in a series of seven original shows, and is part of OST's flagship series, Speaking Out/Speaking In at the NAC 4th Stage - the only live storytelling event of its kind that features professional storytellers from Ottawa, across Canada, and beyond. About the Rosalee An 8th generation Nova Scotian, Rosalee proudly and powerfully projects the voices of her multicultural roots deep into the hearts of her listeners. Since 1999, she has championed the Women's perspective of Atlantic Canadian Oral History. Rosalee has extensively interviewed elder maritime women and has transcribed their rich stories into song. She has been honoured by receiving two Dr. Helen Creighton Folklore Research Awards and a Colchester Heritage Award for her work published on "No Place Like Home" (2001), "Legacy" (2004), and released her third Paul Mills produced CD: "Voices" in 2011.
