18 May 2023 - Join the Ottawa Fringe as they usher in the summer with the 26th Ottawa Fringe Festival. This year, they return to Arts Court and University of Ottawa with a variety of exciting shows from new artists and Fringe favourites alike. Whether your favourite flavour is comedy, drama, stand-up, musicals or dance, this festival has a show for every taste.
"Each year, the Ottawa Fringe Festival helps usher in the city's summer festival season. This year, we're excited to welcome the summer season with a series of 45 shows ranging from comedy, drama, musicals and standup. With a show for every taste, there's no better time to come support the Ottawa theatre community and see some great local, national and international indie performances along the way!" says Alain Richer, Executive Director. This year 45 shows will sprinkle their work across 6 venues in Downtown Ottawa. Autobiography, physical theatre, comedy, and circus - whether you have a favourite or not, try a different flavour and let your tastebuds discover something new! From Ottawa, to Portland, to Berlin, to Wellington, these incredible artists are bringing ten days of fresh performances for you to enjoy. Here’s a sneak peak of what you can sample at the Ottawa Fringe this year. The Open Doors Mentorship Program hosts Billie Nell’s contemporary, queer horror The Remembering (Ottawa, Canada) in a reimagining of Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’; Last year’s outstanding Best of Fest performance by PUSH Physical Theatre, Generic Male: Just What We Need, Another Show About Men (Rochester, USA), returns with their show that is often described as “Cirque du Soleil meets Samuel Beckett with a dash of Monty Python”; From Spoon Fulla Sugar, comedian, academy award nominated actress and ex-flight attendant Aliya Kanani, takes us on a journey around the world, with tales of fitting in, sticking out and standing up with Aliya Kanani: Where You From, From? (Toronto, Canada), through the Canadian Association of Fringe Festival’s BIPOC Lottery. Looking for more? Check out the Fringe Patio, located at 67 Nicholas in the SAW Courtyard! Featuring karaoke, a silent disco, and a games night, the FREE programming is sure to satisfy your cravings. Grab a drink between shows, or stick around at the end of the night to catch up with artists, staff, and community members. TICKETS As always, tickets for each show are $12 plus applicable service fees when purchased online or by card at the Box Office. Tickets and online listing information are available as of May 17th, 2023 at ottawafringe.com. 5 and 10 Show Passes are also available so there are more ways to save and catch all the shows. Passes can be purchased at the Box Office or over the phone between 1-5pm June 5th-14th. You can also buy passes at the Arts Court Box Office on any day of the festival June 15-25.
