The Ottawa Children’s Festival de la jeunesse, with the help of Cultural Affairs Embamex, is proud to present Studio Kixta and Katzenkino and their collection of Mexican animated short films, as part of this year’s 40th anniversary festival.
From May 8th–13th, the collection will debut at the DARC Microcinema at the Arts Court Building, screening continuously from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, in 30-minute increments - free entry with a ticket!
We are thrilled to introduce diverse stories that celebrate the artistry of 2D animation from northeastern Mexico to audiences of all ages.
About the creators…
Studio Kixta: Studio Kixta is a Mexican animation collective dedicated to creating unforgettable experiences through unique characters and culturally rich storytelling. Since rebranding in 2023, Studio Kixta has showcased over 100 animated shorts through its Katzenkino catalog and festival events. Now focused solely on animation, their mission is to generate an unforgettable animated experience through unique characters. The studio continues to be an exponent of innovation and entertainment, aiming to become part of Mexican and global culture through endearing intellectual properties.
Katzenkino: Katzenkino is a curated short streaming platform that celebrates animated shorts and the creators behind them. Their motto is "Where Shorts Shape Artists"—because they believe that every short film is a stepping stone in an artist’s journey. Katzenkino not only showcases diverse, high-quality indie shorts but also opens the curtain to show how they were made.
Together, they present a collection of vibrant Mexican animated films—blending tradition, innovation, and artistic experimentation—offering audiences a rare glimpse into the stories and processes shaping the future of indie animation.
