What better place to be on Canada Day than the heart of the nation’s capital? Canada’s capital region is set to host Canada Day’s biggest celebration in the country. Whether you are an Ottawa resident or a tourist, you’ll definitely want to get in on some of the amazing celebrations happening in the city. To help make planning a little bit easier, we’ve highlighted a few of the many amazing events happening for Canada Day 2016.

– Witness a part of Canadian heritage at 9 a.m. with the Changing of the Guard Ceremony, followed by the Peace Tower Carillon at 10 a.m.

– See some of your favourite Canadian artists including Metric, Alex Cuba, Indian City, Coleman Hell, Alex Nevskym Coeur de Pirate and Les Hay Babies. The Canada Day Noon Show will include remarks from dignitaries, and a flypast by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. The Evening show will also include a flypast by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and will culminate with the President’s Choice Pyro-musical Fireworks at around 10 p.m.

– A short walk from Parliament you will find a variety of cultural performances at Major's Hill Park. Catch performances from Shawn Hook and Andie Duquette as well as displays and activities for visitors of all ages.

– Families will find a variety of indoor and outdoor programming at the Canadian Museum of History. Displays, games, performances, and inflatable structures will be available for parents and kids to enjoy! For more info on official sites for Canada Day, visit www.canadaday.gc.ca.
– Music fans can catch free shows at Jazz Festival on Canada Day. See performances by The Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces Ambassadors’ Stage Band, the Riot Police, TD Jazz Youth Summit and Stingray Stars, Les Poules à Colin, as well as the NAC Orchestra throughout the day at the Jazz Festival main stage and the Tartan Home stage. – Downtown isn’t the only place to celebrate Canada Day Festivities. Join over 30,000 visitors at Walter Baker Park for Canada Day in Kanata. This event, which begins on June 30th and continues through Canada Day, features live music, a live magic show, family dance classes, yoga, and much more. The best part? Free admission! - Most museums around the city offer free admission on Canada Day, but the Bytown Museum is a must see. Visitors can discover the story of how Ottawa came to be this Canada day - from its infancy as the city of Bytown, to the Nation’s Capital. And did we mention there is fresh-squeezed lemonade and ice cream, sit back? Admission is free from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
