It is the beginning of a new tradition in Ottawa, the first activity that Ottawans and tourists from around the world will partake in after visiting Parliament Hill: They will “Get Nipped”. Visitors to participating pubs and restaurants on Sparks Street will declare to their server/bartender that they wish to “Get Nipped”. The server will bring over a Nip of whisky. They will then stand, face the Peace Tower, raise their Nip of whisky and read aloud the Pledge. To consummate their commitment to bringing good cheer to their fellow neighbour they will then embrace and Kiss the Beaver, Canada's pride and joy and our country's hardest worker. “In honour of Nicolas Sparks, a hard working immigrant from Ireland who came to this country in 1816, Getting Nipped is about celebrating Good Health and the warmth of family and friends, both new and old.” says Les Gagne, Executive Director of Sparks Street. “Come experience the warmth of Sparks Street and your new friends here in Ottawa.” In collaboration with the Cracking Up the Capital Comedy Festival, the official launch of “Get Nipped” takes place Friday, February 7th at D’arcy McGee’s (44 Sparks Street) at 7:00pm. Guests include Patrick McKenna who will “Get Nipped” along with other prominent Ottawans. To find out which restaurant or pub you can “Get Nipped” at, please visit Sparkslive.com.
