Fans of local cuisine, craft beer and family outings will be delighted to learn that the lineup for the fifth annual Gatineau Beerfest—coming up May 29 to 31, 2015, at Jacques-Cartier Park—includes great live entertainment and great food to please all musical and culinary tastes. A powerful musical brew On Friday, May 29, Jacques-Cartier Park will echo to the rhythms of Karim Ouellet and Misteur Valaire. Born in Dakar and proudly raised in Quebec, Ouellet delivers pop tinged with soul, reggae, rock and electronic music. He’s released no fewer than five chart-topping albums, including L’amour est un monstre with Misteur Valaire. The Sherbrooke-based quintet’s distinctive sound, a fusion of electro, jazz, hip hop and rock, has audiences on their feet at every gig. On Saturday, May 30, pop-rock-rap group Down With Webster takes the stage. The Toronto band has garnered 12 Much Music Video Award and 6 JUNO Award nominations, and several of its YouTube videos, including One in a Million and Whoa is Me, have received over one million views. Other artists in the music lineup will be announced a few weeks before the event. Themed events and family activities The festival includes an exhibition highlighting the importance of microbreweries in Quebec’s economic development. A seminar entitled “Québec paradis de la bière” (“Quebec, Beer Heaven”), organized to mark the 25th anniversary of the Quebec Association of Microbrewers, will inform festivalgoers about the variety and quality of beers made in Quebec. There will also be beer-tasting sessions and workshops on pairing beer and cheese. Families will welcome the return of the tasting and pairing workshops designed to introduce children ages 8 to 12 to the delights of beer—spruce beer, root beer and ginger ale, that is! As well, kids can explore the inflatable structures, climbing tower, and interactive and educational booths, and young and old alike will be entertained by strolling actors and musicians. A rich and diversified offer Gourmets and gourmands will find plenty to satisfy their appetite among the 40 featured microbreweries, cideries and wineries (five more than last year), plus a dozen agrifood and restaurant exhibitors. In all, visitors will have the opportunity to discover more than 360 beers.
