Advocacy 101 – Putting Cultural Priorities on the Agenda

Writer: Hayley CombaluzierHayley Combaluzier

Ottawa’s cultural sector contributes greatly to our city’s economy and our enviable quality of life. We know that a vibrant and diverse arts, festival and heritage sector is at the heart of a strong community. How do we ensure that our government leaders understand this too? With provincial and municipal elections coming up soon, the Ottawa Cultural Alliance will be actively advocating for our sector needs. Getting cultural priorities on the political agenda means we need to work together – there is power in numbers! At this workshop you will learn what we are doing, how to get involved and what this means for your organization. Want to:

  • Be politically active but unsure of how to get started?

  • Build more allies and work more effectively with government to advance your activities?

  • Take your “ask” to the next level?

  • Learn how to support your cultural community advocacy?

This workshop is designed for you!

Our workshop’s experts will sharpen your government relations skills by:

  • Offering practical information, tools and tips on how to get government’s attention and action

  • Helping you to create your own advocacy action plan

  • Providing insight and information to support sector advocacy during the upcoming elections

  • Please note that this workshop will focus on concrete skills and advice, and will not focus on particular issues.
