Janina Fialkowska Celebrates 75

Beloved around the world for her elegant and expressive interpretations of the Classical and Romantic repertoire, Janina Fialkowska returns to Chamberfest to celebrate her 75th birthday – and to give the final Ottawa performances of her remarkable career.

Her solo first half moves from the grace and intimacy of Schubert’s Valses sentimentales to two works by Liszt: the sparkling Valse-Impromptu and the rarely heard Gretchen, Liszt’s own solo-piano transcription of the second movement from his monumental Faust Symphony.

After intermission, Fialkowska is joined by distinguished Canadian bassist Joel Quarrington and an ensemble of strings for Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto in an intimate chamber arrangement – a fitting celebration of one of Canada’s most beloved pianists.
