Harvest Noir announces free summer picnic series

Writer: Hayley CombaluzierHayley Combaluzier

Entering our 4th year as Ottawa’s most unique end-of-summer party and pop-up picnic extravaganza, Harvest Noir is getting started early this year with a freeSummer Picnic Series to be held July 12 and August 23. Following the tradition from the world’s greatest cities where the public have mastered relaxed dining “en plain air” throughout the summer, the Summer Picnic Series hosted by Harvest Noir is designed to get folks out enjoying Ottawa's terrific urban spaces in a casual mass picnic. Our first free picnic will take place alongside the Main Farmers Market on July 12 starting at noon, where our picnic guests are invited to browse for picnic ingredients and enjoy a special treat arranged by the Main Farmers Market.

Unlike our annual chic picnic pop-up gala (to be held this year on Sept 27), our free Summer Picnics require no dressing-up and no fancy table decorations, just a positive disposition, a picnic blanket, and a basket filled with tasty snacks – ideally from Ottawa’s fabulous farmer’s markets. Once again Harvest Noir events promote Savour Ottawa, local farms, and farmer’s markets as we enter the harvest season. Our summer picnics are the perfect opportunity to casually picnic with other Harvest Noir guests (and anyone else who wants to come) in the heart of the city. Lose yourself Bohemian style, stretch out on a blanket with some local savoury nosh, or dance barefoot on the grass, face to sun. So mark your calendars for July 12 and August 23. Make sure you’re tuned to our Facebook, Twitter, or HarvestNoir.com to catch when we drop the exciting location of the August 23rd location.

Harvest Noir

(www.harvestnoir.com) is an elegant "dress your best in black" harvest celebration in two acts: a chic picnic and stunning sparkler-lighting celebration, followed by an audience-participation fashion show and DJ dance party at one of Ottawa's finest cultural venues. Groups of friends of all ages dressed in expressive or vintage black costumes gather en masse at a secret urban location to dine and celebrate the harvest, local food and farms. The September 27th main event is preceded by a quirky assortment of pop-up events and flashmobs. Harvest Noir has a social mission to promote local food and sustainability in a vibrant community format, and is a fund-raiser for BioRegional North America, a non-profit environmental organization headquartered in Ottawa.
