About the Role

CONTRACT TERM: 26 Weeks

WORK SCHEDULE:  4 business days / 32 hours per week

LOCATION: 2 Daly Ave. (Arts Court) - in-office 4 days a week


SUMMARY: This position is funded through Ontario’s Job Creation Partnerships (see more details below). This position reports to the Technical Manager and supports the live events, equipment bookings, and facilities rentals for members’ production work, festivals and screenings hosted by DARC.



RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Support DARC members’ works, festival and event technical needs by responding to technical and production support requests, equipment and facility bookings.

  • Support technical needs for DARC facilities: Recording Studio, SOUNDSTAGE, Microcinema, Edit Suite and Workshop Room.

  • Support technical needs of live events and screenings, workshops and professional development programming.

  • Maintain and update DARC’s database, AMS, responding to bookings and inquiries in a timely manner.

  • Working on special projects, creating technical guides, informational videos and providing tech support.

  • Inventory review and maintenance, cleaning equipment and updating software as needed or requested.

  • Work in conjunction with DARC staff to support DARC’s annual screening, RESOLUTION, and partnered screenings or events like the BIG GAY SCREENING, Canadian Film Day, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Visual AIDS, etc. as needed.

  • Support Artists in Residence and Production Fund recipients with technical orientations, guidance, bookings and support as needed.

  • Other on-site support such as general member technical orientations, facility tours or hands-on skills assessments as needed.

  • Bring creative concepts and ideas to meetings and supporting the team by pro-actively implementing notes and changes.

  • Change priorities and communicate hurdles or challenges as they arise.

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A people person who is positive, responsible, respectful, and enthusiastic;

  • Well-organized, pro-active, works well under pressure and independently if needed, takes on projects simultaneously and autonomously;

  • Ability to answer questions via email and phone from members, partners and the general public;

  • Proficient with Google Business Suite, knowledge of Asana or other task-based project management tools;

  • Knowledge of membership or booking databases; Able to work in an Mac environment;

  • Knowledge of production equipment and needs for digital production environments in film and media art;

  • Knowledge of DaVinci Resolve; softwares like Adobe Creative Suite, Ableton, other production softwares are an asset;

  • Knowledge of live event environments (a/v, theatre, festivals, music, etc.) are an asset;

  • Passionate about artist-run-centres and Ottawa’s media arts and film community is an asset;

  • Bilingualism is an asset, other languages welcome.


Additional Qualifications Required:

Candidate eligibility for JCP is determined according to the following criteria:

  1. An unemployed job seeker or those employed less than 20 hours per week.

  2. A permanent resident living in Ontario who is legally authorized to work in Canada.

  3. Meet at least 1 of the following criteria:

- Has an established Employment Insurance (EI) benefit period.

- Previously established an EI benefit period that has ended within the previous 60 months.

- Paid employee EI premiums (e.g. Box 18 on the T4) in at least 3 of the last 10 years while earnings have been at least $2000 in each of those years.

- Received the Employment Insurance Emergency Response benefit (CERB) within the previous 60 months.



NOTE: Persons currently enrolled in full-time academic studies are not eligible for consideration. Those who qualify to establish an Employment Insurance (EI) claim must do so prior to being considered for JCP participation.



Remuneration:

$704 (gross) per week paid biweekly by the Province of Ontario (average hourly rate: $22.00 based on 4 days/32 hours).
