This role will support the technical and audio-visual needs of the summer programming at the centre, particularly supporting programming for Queer and Racialized youth. This includes providing members resources, equipment bookings, equipment/suite maintenance, technical demonstrations and administrative tasks related to workshops and events. The candidate will be involved in the maintenance of the equipment database and any corresponding data entry. The Technical Assistant will also assist with programming event technical needs, as required, for the Video Camp for Youth+, as well as support the technical needs for the centre’s QTBIPOC youth and other programming as it arises. Opportunities for mentorship and skills building with audiovisual, media art and production equipment are available. Please note that the Technical Assistant will be scheduled for our annual garage sale, taking place Saturday, July 11, 2026.
QUALIFICATIONS
2+ years of experience working in a customer service capacity;
Organized, detail oriented and ability to work independently and collaboratively;
Strong interpersonal communication skills; takes initiative and direction well;
Familiar with media art, video, and audio production equipment;
Student or graduate of film, television, fine arts, media art or similar is a strong asset;
On set (film or tv) or hands-on technical experience (theatre or live events) is considered a strong asset;
Familiar with basic digital video editing software like Adobe Creative Cloud and Davinci Resolve is considered a strong asset;
Familiarity with office project management applications (e.g. Google Suite, Asana) and macOS a strong asset;
The ability to speak French or a second language is considered a strong asset.
The Technical Assistant will fulfill all of their duties onsite at DARC’s facilities at Arts Court (67 Nicholas / 2 Daly Ave.) This is not a hybrid role. There is no parking on site. Occasional after hours, weekend and offsite attendance will be scheduled as necessary for programming events. COMPENSATION
Canada Summer Jobs Contract: 8 weeks Term Contract, 35 hours per week for a maximum of 280 hours
Rate of Pay: $20.00 per hour + 4% vacation pay
Expected start date: July 6, 2026
Benefits: Comped DARC workshops, facilities and equipment during employment contract
This position is a member facing, on-site role at Arts Court in downtown Ottawa that will fit within DARC’s working hours, 10-5 PM (Mon-Wed) and 10-6 PM (Thurs-Fri). There is no parking on site, Arts Court is a 5 minute walk to the Rideau and uOttawa LRT stations and is fully accessible. All staff must make themselves available to be onsite as scheduled by management or as required by their duties outlined above. Occasional after hours, weekend and offsite attendance may be scheduled or requested as necessary for public programming events.
As determined by Canada Summer Jobs, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Based in the Ottawa/Gatineau region;
be between 15 and 30 years of age* at the beginning of the employment period;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**, and;
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
*The candidate must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.
**International students are not eligible participants.
