POSITION: DI1 - Festival Assistant – Digi60 Filmmakers’ Festival

CONTRACT TERM: 26 Weeks  START DATE: August 3, 2026  END DATE: After 26 weeks

WORK SCHEDULE:  4 business days / 32 hours per week WORK LOCATION:  Hybrid & 2 Daly Ave. Office (2 days minimum)

SUMMARY:  This position is funded through Ontario’s Job Creation Partnerships (see more details below). This position reports to the  Festival Manager and supports the festival’s year-round programming and events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to emails and inquiries regarding the festival, communicating directly with the filmmakers and registered participants.

  • Creates and maintains a list of volunteers, coordinating volunteer outreach and scheduling.

  • Supporting the Festival Manager, Festival Coordinator and programmers with on-site event support during live events including event kick-off, festival launch, socials and festival screenings.

  • Works with co-op students, interns and volunteers to support behind-the-scenes projects, podcasting programs or other practicum activities.

  • Meets regularly with Festival Manager, programmers and volunteer board members to coordinate logistics for programming, speakers and filmmakers.

  • Creates, disseminates, and collects the festival feedback survey post festival.

  • Liaises or outreaches to festival partners and sponsors, communicating via email or phone, supporting meetings with VIPs as needed.

  • Supports or works in conjunction with Social Media & Communications Assistant by developing blog posts, newsletters or other email outreach resources, as needed.

  • Provides support and collaboration with Communications and Social Media Assistant to make sure deadlines are being met, responses are received, and tasks are completed in a timely manner.

  • Works within the schedule and timelines in a proficient way that allows for feedback, communication and correction.

  • Attends team meetings or events in an engaged way.

  • Meets regularly with the festival team and festival board to organize priorities and give feedback.

SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient with Google Business Suite and project management tools (like Asana).

  • A people person who is positive, responsible, respectful, and enthusiastic

  • Well-organized, works well under pressure and independently if needed, takes on projects simultaneously and autonomously.

  • Excellent oral skills in English; French is highly desirable.

  • Experience in arts administration, event management or the arts and culture sector would be considered an asset.

  • Passionate about Ottawa’s independent filmmaking community is an asset.

Additional Qualifications Required:

Candidate eligibility for JCP is determined according to the following criteria:

  1. An unemployed job seeker or those employed less than 20 hours per week.

  2. A permanent resident living in Ontario who is legally authorized to work in Canada.

  3. Meet at least 1 of the following criteria:

  4. Has an established Employment Insurance (EI) benefit period.

  5. Previously established an EI benefit period that has ended within the previous 60 months.

  6. Paid employee EI premiums (e.g. Box 18 on the T4) in at least 3 of the last 10 years while earnings have been at least $2000 in each of those years.

NOTE: Persons currently enrolled in full-time academic studies are not eligible for consideration. Those who qualify to establish an Employment Insurance (EI) claim must do so prior to being considered for JCP participation.


Remuneration:

$704 (gross) per week paid biweekly by the Province of Ontario (average hourly rate: $22.00 based on 4 days/32 hours).
