Ottawa Lumière Festival announces 2013 line-up!

Evening of Light cultural extravaganza showcases exciting Ottawa talent in visual arts, music, film and circus arts The New Edinburgh Community & Arts Centre (NECTAR) and the Lumière Festival Board are pleased to announce the festival’s 2013 performance line-up featuring a broad variety of arts and entertainment experiences for the whole family including music, story telling, fire dancing, film and circus arts. The 10th annual Celebration of Light kicks off on July 31st with the New Edinburgh Culinary Tour and three photo marathons running on Aug. 3rd, 10th and 17th. The event will culminate with the magical Evening of Light celebration on Aug. 17th in New Edinburgh’s beautiful Stanley Park. The festival will be a wonderful event for the entire family, with lantern-making workshops, face-painting, food vendors and the lantern labyrinth. Performances kick off at 5 pm and run until 11 p.m. “Lumière is not your typical static audience experience,” says Melanie Davis, Executive and Creative Director of NECTAR, which presents Lumière each year. “Lumière embraces all different types of artistic expression, inviting artists from all over the National Capital Region to come together and collaborate through photography, film, performance and visual arts and create something unprecedented. It invites participation, exploration and celebrates our creative spirit. Lumière tears down the fourth wall and provides a dynamic creative experience for everyone.” The line-up for the 2013 Evening of Light will feature the following Ottawa-area artists:

The Evening of Light will also feature the work of the Windows Collective, a group of six Ottawa artists who create independent films and numerous visual artists and visual art installations from five local visual artists, Rachelle Carrier, Luc-Anne Salm, Natalie Bourdeau-Legris, Jessica Aylsworth and Steven Artelle. “I absolutely love the Lumière Festival,” says professional fire dancer Sophie Latreille, who has been performing at Lumière for nine years with her Mini Cirque/Fire Weavers troupe and will feature again this year. “There is a special ambiance there. It really is magical.” The event is pay-what-you-can so everyone can afford to come! ($10 donation recommended)
