Step out of the city and into a traditional Kozak tavern (Korchma) with Canada’s only Balkan-klezmer-gypsy-party-punk super-band, the JUNO-nominated Lemon Bucket Orkestra on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the Ukrainian Banquet Hall. From Toronto to New York, Budapest to Berlin, audiences around the world are hailing the Lemon Bucket Orkestra, as folk music revolutionaries. Their shows are more than concerts; they’re celebrations of ancient tradition and culture expressed with an explosive punk spirit rarely contained by four walls. The relentless energy of the band is beyond infectious; new and longtime fans alike speak of a liberating experience found nowhere else. Opening that night will be Toronto’s hottest Ukrainian party rock band, Zapovid playing for the first time in Ottawa. To make the night even more interesting, Vasyl Popadiuk, the highly acclaimed master of the gypsy violin, will give a surprise, unannounced 10 minute performance to tease the unsuspecting crowd at 9:45 pm. This is an evening in Ottawa that is “not to be missed”. So, come party like a Kozak. Everyone is welcome. Your favorite Ukrainian foods and drinks will also be available. The Capital Ukrainian Festival (@CapUkrFestival) is hosting a Korchma Launch Party to announce its entertainment line-up for the second annual summer festival running July 21-24, 2016. The Festival is held on the grounds of St John the Baptist Ukrainian Shrine, Heron Road & Prince of Wales Drive. Where:  Ukrainian Banquet Hall, 1000 Byron Avenue When:   Doors open at 8:00 p.m. (Zapovid plays at 8:30-9:30, Lemon Bucket Orkestra 10:00 – 11:00 and back again from 11:30 – 12:30) Tickets: $35 in advance purchase online or $40 at the door.
