Capital Vélo Fest and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa are excited to announce Ottawa’s 4th annual bicycle festival and Tour La Nuit on Saturday, May 31st, 2014. The event takes place from 4pm to 11pm at Ottawa City Hall Festival Plaza and on bikes through the streets of the city. Bicycle Rodeo activities from 4pm to 8pm at City Hall will feature hands-on learning activities and information about bicycle safety, maintenance and cycle tourism. Fun events include bike decorating and face painting with the Ottawa Art Gallery, bicycle limbo, bicycle polo and other cycling skill challenges for riders of all ages. Hundreds of valuable cycling prizes are available to be won for participants in the challenge events. At sundown, the Tour La Nuit takes over with a 20km ride along the scenic Rideau Canal, through the Experimental Farm and back to City Hall. Live music will be played throughout the event at City Hall and along the route of the Tour La Nuit. Capital Vélo Fest is a Pay-What-You-Can event to encourage riders of all means to join in the fun. All proceeds from the event will go to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Ottawa (BBBSO). Participants who register in advance on line with a donation will receive a ticket admitting them to the "Gear Zone" at the festival where they can light up their bikes for the night ride. Visit www.capitalvelofest.ca for more information, to register for the ride and make a donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa. Participants can also raise funds for the charity by soliciting sponsors donations through the BBBSO sponsor web site. ============================================= Capital Vélo Fest Inc. is an Ottawa-based non-profit corporation whose mission is to “Inspire people of all ages to ride a bike more often” by organizing fun events and providing educational programs focused on cycling in partnership with governments, the cycling industry and cycling advocacy groups. For further information about Capital Vélo Fest, visit www.capitalvelofest.ca . Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ottawa has been creating Big Brother friendships since 1970 and Big Sister friendships since 1973. The organization has grown to include a variety of different programs and currently serves over 1100 boys and girls on an annual basis. In 2013 our volunteers gave over 42 000 hours to mentor these youth. A 2013 study by the Boston Consulting Group determined that the social return on every $1 invested into Big Brothers Big Sisters provides $18 to $24 economic return to society. Serving as role models, BBBSO mentors teach, by example, the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school, and of having respect for family, peers and community.
