The end of winter is eagerly anticipated, both for the beauty and vibrancy of spring and the annual announcement of the Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario list, compiled by Festivals & Events Ontario (FEO) and presented at their Awards Gala.
The Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario designation acknowledges excellence amongst the more than 3,000 events that occur annually within the province.
This year no less than seven Ottawa area festivals were honoured in FEO’s Top 100 — Canada Day Celebrations, Mosaika: Canada Through the Eyes of Its People, Ottawa Folk Festival, Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, Winterlude, TD Ottawa International Jazz Festival and RBC Royal Bank Ottawa Bluesfest.
FEO further honours 20 celebrations each year with a Festivals & Events of Distinction honour. These represent an elite group of the most well-known and respected in the province. Ottawa Festivals is extremely proud to announce five in this prestigious level of distinction — Canada Day Celebrations, Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival, Winterlude, TD Ottawa International Jazz Festival, and RBC Royal Bank Ottawa Bluesfest.
“We are very proud that these events have been recognized,” says Barbara Stacey, Executive Director of Ottawa Festivals, a not-for-profit organization representing festivals, special events and fairs that take place in the Ottawa area, “And they really are just the tip of the iceberg. Ottawa is host to hundreds of events that range from community celebrations to the internationally recognized events honoured by FEO this weekend.”
