Ottawa Festivals rolls out

Ottawa Festivals, with the support of The Ontario Trillium Foundation, is pleased to announce the launch of its new online volunteer management tool

Year in and year out, Ottawa offers a wide range of festivals, special events and fairs that draw in hundreds of thousands of people. None of this would be possible without the support and dedication of volunteers. In 2011, over 12,000 volunteers contributed over 141,000 volunteer hours towards the 65 members of Ottawa Festivals.

“Recruiting and retaining volunteers have been reoccurring issues in the festival industry. As a membership organization, we felt it was the right time to step in and offer an innovative volunteer management solution,” says Barbara Stacey, Executive Director, Ottawa Festivals. “Thanks to the generous contribution of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we are proud to introduce” is a volunteer management product that enables the public to learn about opportunities in the festival industry, to share feedback and to build professional networks.  “It goes beyond what other volunteer management tools are offering. matches volunteers with the right opportunities based on their skills, motivations and preferences. This virtual tool will also allow volunteers to evaluate their volunteer experiences and allow festival organizers to improve their volunteer management practices,” says Tamer Mansy, Program Manager, Research and Partnerships.

“The work of volunteers at festivals is often the most important contributing factor to their ongoing vitality and success,” says Jean-Paul Gagnon, Program Manager, Ontario Trillium Foundation. “We are proud to support Ottawa Festivals in the development of a volunteer engagement tool that will help assist festival organizers in the recruitment of volunteers for years to come. Congratulations Ottawa Festivals to this innovative approach to volunteer management.”
