About the Role
Position: HA1 – Event and Special Project Assistant – H.O.P.E. Ottawa
Desired Contract Length: 26 Weeks Anticipated Start Date: January 26, 2026. End Date: Term approved to the Province of Ontario’s current fiscal year end, March 31, 2027. Desired additional weeks, ending July 24, 2026, is pending the approval of Ottawa Festivals’ fiscal year (2025-2026) JCP program agreement.

Job Summary: This position is funded through Ontario’s Job Creation Partnerships (see eligibility details below). Reporting to the Office Manager and working with the Leadership Team, the Event Assistant will provide various event management and administrative support to H.O.P.E. Events, particularly HOPE Volleyball SummerFest in July.
The Opportunity:
Works closely with the Executive Team to ensure smooth planning and execution of HOPE Volleyball SummerFest (Saturday, July 11th 2026) and associated activities.
Assist the H.O.P.E. Office with the administration of HOPE Volleyball SummerFest vendors and exhibitors, including soliciting returning/new vendors, ensuring the fulfillment of the vendor requirements, and providing general information
With support from Office Manager, provide oversight for the Volunteer SummerFest Planning team. Tasks include updating training documents, providing support for Planning Team committee and setting up Planning Team Meetings and Site Walk
Provides support for the recruitment and management of SummerFest Event Day volunteers. Tasks include: updating job descriptions, preparing recruitment materials, and managing volunteer communication
Along with Volunteer Event Supervisors, plan and execute the Volunteer Orientation.
Provide support for the planning and execution of special projects/events, such as the new grocery program, Bags of HOPE, and RockFest
Other tasks and related duties as assigned by the Executive Team
Skills and Qualifications:
At least one-year experience with volunteer management
At least one-year experience with event management
Computer literate with strong experience using Google Workspace, MS Word and Excel
Ability to work under pressure and on various projects simultaneously and independently
Strong written and oral communication skills in English; French is considered an asset
Additional Qualifications Required:
Candidate eligibility for JCP is determined according to the following criteria:
An unemployed job seeker or those employed less than 20 hours per week.
A resident living in Ontario who is legally authorized to work in Canada.
Meet at least 1 of the following criteria:
Established Employment Insurance (EI) benefit period.
Previously established an EI benefit period that has ended within the previous 60 months.
Paid employee EI premiums (e.g. Box 18 on the T4) in at least 3 of the last 10 years while earnings have been at least $2000 in each of those years.
NOTE: Persons currently enrolled in full-time academic studies are not eligible for consideration. Those who qualify to establish an Employment Insurance (EI) claim must do so prior to being considered for JCP participation.
Remuneration:
$704 gross per week paid biweekly by the Province of Ontario (average hourly rate: $22.00 based on 4 days/32 hours).
