Position: CI1 – Volunteer Services Assistant – CityFolk Festival

Contract Length:  26 Weeks.                             Start Date: April  3, 2023                      End Date: September 29, 2023

Work Schedule:  Full Time – 4 business days per week (32 hours)                                Location:  Hybrid: Own home and Westboro

Job Summary:  Reports directly to and works under the supervision of the HR Manager of Volunteer Services. The Volunteer Services Assistant is responsible for administrative, planning and execution support for established programs and initiatives for CityFolk Volunteer Services.  Occasional evenings and weekends are required pre-festival, and candidates must be available throughout the festival.

The Opportunity:

  • Become knowledgeable about festival operations, procedures, and policies.
  • Assist with planning and organizing volunteer logistics requirements.
  • Develop and deliver a volunteer recruitment campaign, with a focus on youth engagement.
  • Support the delivery of volunteer orientation, resource, and training programs (online and in person).
  • Provide admin and meeting support for all crew leader and public meetings (set-up, minutes, hand-outs, etc.).
  • Provide admin support /data entry/ editing duties for online volunteer management/registration system.
  • Support volunteer appreciation initiatives such as post-fest volunteer appreciation party, and off-season events.
  • Provide administrative support with volunteer service awards program and thank you/reference letters.
  • Consistently provide knowledgeable, empathetic services to volunteers via phone, email, walk in.
  • Provide on-site support for all volunteer crew leaders, including admin tasks and logistics coordination.
  • Supervise various on-site appreciation initiatives; other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • At least two years administrative experience.
  • Experience working with youth (14-17) and developing youth programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal/people skills; strong detail, organizational and administrative skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, public speaking experience an asset.
  • Interest in community engagement initiatives, specifically in relation to volunteer recruitment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office – specifically Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team; ability to prioritize, multitask and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Event or volunteer management experience is an asset; proficient in French is an asset.

Additional Qualifications Required:

Eligible to participate in Ontario’s Job Creation Partnership (JCP) program by meeting the following criteria:

  1. An unemployed job seeker or those employed less than 20 hours per week (part-time students and graduates may apply)
  2. Live in Ontario
  3. Legally authorized to work in Canada
  4. Have one, or both, of the following criteria:
  • Established an Employment Insurance (EI) benefit claim (regular or maternity/parental benefits ONLY)
  • Paid employee payroll premiums, i.e., employed in Canada, in five of any five of the last ten years while earning an annual income of at least $2000 (gross).

Remuneration:

$620 (gross) per week for 32 hours ($19.375 average per hour) provided by the Province of Ontario.
