The Scottish Society of Ottawa has brought Hogman-eh! to life in Canada with one of the biggest New Year’s Eve parties in Ottawa, and the largest Scottish-style New Year’s Eve celebration outside of Scotland!
Hogman-eh starts out family-friendly with the Great Scot party for kids and families. Visit the Hall of Origins in the afternoon for your clan research and starting at 5:00 p.m. lively Celtic Ceilidh-style entertainment including piping and drumming, fiddlers, and highland dancing (with a few wee ones!) This culminates in a Children and Clans parade lead by the RCMP Pipes and Drums to a balloon drop to ring in the New Year at 7 pm (midnight Scotland time).
The evening then transitions to a grand New Year’s celebration. There will be Scottish food and drink (a premium whisky bar) great alternatives if you don’t like Haggis. Get a VIP seat close to the stage and a delicious meal.
Outstanding and highly entertaining Celtic-style bands include the Mudmen, Anna Ludlow, MacIssac-Mackenzie, and Glengarry’s Brigadoons. We are thrilled to be introducing Piper Ally, the one-woman piping sensation this year. The full band of the RCMP will regale you with concert arrangements of their famous pipe tunes to the delightful choreography of their premier dancers.
The party continues on into the wee hours. We’ll be ringing in the new year by singing the iconic New Year song Auld Lang Syne together. Did you know Auld Lang Syne was written by the famous Scottish Bard Robbie Burns? It’s a magical experience for everyone.
