“The Story\’s debut CD is highly accomplished, richly detailed, thoroughly novel, and above all, blessed with as strong a band feeling as anything else I\’ve heard so far this year.” – Peter Hum, Ottawa Citizen
Ottawa (Monday, January 10, 2011) – Bassist/composer Zack Lober will perform on Monday, January 24, 2011, 7:30pm at the National Arts Centre Fourth Stage in a concert presented by the Ottawa Jazz Festival. As an active band member and co-founder of The Story, \”…an exciting new collaborative that is set to make its mark on the jazz world.\” – All About Jazz., he will perform with some of the most exciting up and coming artists of the next generation in both jazz and rock.
The Story is an acoustic/electric group based in Brooklyn, NY featuring five unique and extraordinary musicians/composers. Each member came to New York from different parts of the world seeking to further develop his own musical voice: Lars Dietrich – alto saxophone (Amsterdam, Holland), Samir Zarif – tenor saxophone/electronics (Houston, U.S.), Greg Ritchie – drums (Saint John, Canada), John Escreet – piano (Doncaster, U.K.), Zack Lober – bass (Montreal, Canada).
They met at an impromptu jam session in a Harlem apartment five years ago. Their musical synergy and personal connection was immediate, prompting them to form a band together. With their unique approach to jazz, their reputation grew rapidly with both audiences and critics. They have since made numerous tours of Europe, Canada and the U.S. The Story has earned their place as one of the most exciting new groups to come out of the current New York jazz scene.
In November the band spent 10 days as Artists in Residence at the Guimaraes Jazz Festival in Portugal, headlined a concert, gave a series of workshops with students from the Porto Music Conservatory, and conducted a big band concert of their music.
The band will be touring in preparation for their second album to be recorded in New York upon their return from Canada in February 2011.
