Ottawa Greekfest (2012 Dates TBA)

The festival will run from Aug. 10th – 21st, 2011.  Free admission, free parking and free shuttle service. This annual event features live Greek music and traditional Greek dances, excellent Greek cuisine, cooking demonstrations, Greek language lessons, Greek traditional dance lessons, craft and cultural exhibits, souvenirs, raffle, children’s activities, Church tours and ecclesiastical displays.

For a number of years now, the Summer Solstice Aboriginal Arts Festival has been providing families a unique opportunity to experience and celebrate the diverse Aboriginal cultures of the National Capital Region. Ongoing, lively and interactive programming will keep your family entertained throughout the day including extensive Family activities (pony rides, petting zoo, bouncy castles, stilt-walkers and more) Aboriginal artisan village (featuring interactive arts workshops, demonstrations and vendors) and our popular Main Stage featuring headliner Shane Yellowbird, Shy Anne Hovorka, Kaiva, Aboriginal Canada We’ve Got Talent! and ongoing cultural showcases throughout the day.

The Canada Dance Festival (CDF) is a showcase and celebration of how the art of dance, and its community of supporters, is evolving, growing and flourishing in this country. Each festival is a snapshot of our rich and diverse culture, and our Canadian stories and experiences – told through the art of dance.  In June of 2012, the CDF Society will be celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary, featuring exciting commissioned works and world premieres. This signature event sets the stage for profiling Canada’s most contemporary, innovative and leading edge choreographers, companies and individual artists.

Carnival of Cultures is a weekend festival that celebrates folkloric traditions through music, dance, theatre from the four corners of the globe. Come discover South American, European, African, Middle-Eastern, and Asian cultures presented by over 500 local artists who will take the stage at the Marion Dewar Plaza.  In addition to non-stop entertainment and activities, the festival also offers tantalizing authentic cuisine, eye-opening demonstrations, and hands-on workshops for people of all ages.

Le Carnaval des cultures est un festival qui fête les traditions folkloriques par le biais de la musique, la danse, et le théâtre provenant des quatre coins du monde.  Venez découvrir les cultures de l’Amérique du Sud, de l’Europe, de l’Afrique, du Moyen-Orient et de l’Asie présentées par au delà de 500 artistes d’ici qui s’afficheront sur la scène du Plaza Mirion Dewar (Festival Plaza) .  En plus de spectacles et d’activités continus, le festival offre des cuisines authentiques, des démonstrations révélatrices et des ateliers pour les gens de tous les âges.

Westfest

Westfest is a party like no other! Each year,  more than 100,000 people attend Westfest during our outdoor, three-day celebration of Canadian art and culture. As a free multidisciplinary art festival dedicated to showcasing Canadian artists and their work in an accessible and inclusive setting, Westfest fills 14 city blocks with a variety of artistic disciplines such as music, contemporary dance, visual art, media art, performance art, spoken word, poetry and fiction readings, Aboriginal art forms, children’s entertainment, buskers, street performers, and much more.

In addition to the street level celebration, each year the festival hosts an outdoor main stage which features some of the best acts our country has to offer. Past headliners have included Buffy Saint-Marie, Sloan, Joel Plaskett, Jane Siberry, Cowboys Junkies, Kathleen Edwards, and more. Established in 2004, Westfest is a fusion of community and art, and places a special emphasis on diversity, children, and all families. Taking place annually the second weekend of June, Westfest is proud to be Ottawa’s only festival of its size and scope that is free and open to all!

The Ottawa International Children’s Festival was established in 1985 and is an annual celebration of the best in live performing arts for young people. For over two decades the OICF has presented an abundance of award-winning artists from around the globe and made wide-eyed children out of attendees of all ages.

The OICF provides a unique opportunity for children and their families to experience the rich heritage of other cultures right in their own backyard. We strive to present work that excites and challenges audiences of all ages, and the festival prides itself on developing and producing award winning programming that comes to us from across Canada and around the world.
