The Ottawa Fringe Festival launched last month with the complete online listing of 2018 shows. Running June 14-24, the Festival will celebrate the organization’s 22nd anniversary with 354
performances of 56 shows in 10 venues centred around Arts Court, the University of Ottawa, and Downtown Rideau. The full line-up can be found at ottawafringe.com/shows.
This year’s programming includes performances of every genre, from around the world. Comedy from Melbourne, burlesque from Orlando, aerial theatre from Toronto, storytelling from London and drama from Paris, you can experience international art right here in Ottawa.
Explore the transgendered experience with Re: Construct (Ottawa); meet a grandmother who has found herself in outer space with INTERSTELLAR ELDER (Victoria, BC); take a musical journey through the life of Josephine Baker in Josephine: a burlesque cabaret dream play (Orlando, USA); or see the world through the eyes of two oversized vulvas, clowning their way through self acceptance with Lip Service (Vancouver, BC). These are just four of the immersive, spectacular and weird performances coming to Ottawa Fringe.
In addition to performances, the Festival will host a series of free events to make the festival more accessible, including tours of the sparkling, new Ottawa Art Gallery; the return of the Fringe Late Night, featuring artist interviews and games; and Sunday Morning Yoga, an opportunity to stretch and breathe in
the middle of Fringe chaos.
And, of course, the beer tent! Our beloved beer tent has been hopping from location to location since the construction began on our original location beside Arts Court. Four years later, it has found its new home, with new branding as the SkyLounge. Located on the 3rd floor of the Ottawa Art Gallery, featuring a rooftop patio – it is THE place to meet friends old and new, grab a drink and a bite to eat, share stories and ask “What have you seen? What should I see?” Join fellow Fringers at the SkyLounge, and raise a glass to the 2018 Fringe!
Fringe is for everyone. Whether you want to catch twenty shows, or just enjoy a beverage and a good view, we encourage you to Binge the Fringe this summer.
