Steven Page is more naked than ever

Steven Page is calling from his girlfriend’s house in Syracuse, N.Y. Domestic clangs and clatters can be heard in the background, the kind of sounds that ring through any household in the days before a summer road trip – which, in Page’s case, will take him on a Canadian tour of summer festivals.
The gigs, in which Page will sing solo, accompanied by cellist Kevin Fox, may mark a new career direction for the former member of the Barenaked Ladies. But they don’t signal a change in his thinking. He had been wanting to do more solo work before deciding to leave the Ladies last February.
The summer shows with Fox will mix Page’s new and old solo material with some Barenaked Ladies songs. “It’s been nice to work with somebody to reimagine the back catalogue,” says Page, “somebody who hasn’t spent so much time playing that music.”
