OTTAWA – Canadians are shelling out an extra $1 million for Ottawa’s Canada Day party to mark the Queen’s visit to the capital, QMI Agency has learned.
While the Canadian Heritage department’s base budget is $875,000 for the afternoon show, they’re boosting it by $1.1 million to pay for a Royal Box for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, a redesigned stage with two extra screens, an experienced artistic director and an expanded house band, Caroline Marchildon said.
“The 2010 edition of the Canada Day noon show on Parliament Hill will pay tribute to Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh,” Marchildon wrote in an e-mail to QMI Agency.
