Last year, I was so appalled by the lack of jazz on the main stage at the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, that I just didn’t go. That’s a fairly significant statement from a huge jazz fan like myself.
This year the main stage acts are more like jazz and, in fact, the two best evenings of entertainment featured, not surprisingly, jazz. The Fellowship Band provided a superb show and Monday’s evening offering with Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue and the brilliant Allen Toussaint was as close to perfection as we’ve seen at the festival since Dave Brubeck brought his group through a few years ago.
