Media Advisory: Exploring Irish-Canadian Heritage at Library and Archives Canada
OTTAWA, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – March 9, 2009) – Library and Archives Canada invites the news media to explore Irish-Canadian heritage on Thursday, March 12 with two fascinating activities, which are part of the 2009 Ottawa Irish Festival.The first activity is Kaleidoscope: Exploring Irish-Canadian Heritage Online, a presentation by Library and Archives Canada specialists on two websites concerning Irish-Canadian documentary heritage. It is hosted by Friends of Library and Archives Canada.
The website In Quarantine: Life and Death on Grosse Ile, 1832-1937 will be presented in French by Jean-Sebastien Potvin, and a presentation will be given in English by Kyle Browness on an image album on Flickr.com, featuring images from The Shamrock and the Maple Leaf website.
The second activity is an Introduction to Genealogy with speakers from the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (Brian Glenn), the Ottawa branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society (Mike More), and Ancestry.ca (Lesley Anderson).
