Guitar geeks get ready for Beck

KISS, with its soggy freight of ’70s nostalgia and Halloween kitsch, might garner the biggest crowd at this year’s Bluesfest. But the act guaranteed to root the serious guitar freaks and jam band axemen out of their cellars, garages and lofts is none other than legendary virtuoso Jeff Beck, the British-born guitar god who fronted the Yardbirds, laid the foundations for heavy metal, and inspired the character of Nigel Tufnel in the movie This is Spinal Tap.

It’s not every day that one of rock’s pioneering guitar heroes lands in Ottawa, especially someone with the pedigree and chops of Beck, who burst onto the scene in 1965 when he replaced Eric Clapton as lead guitarist with the Yardbirds, and quickly established himself as one of the world’s great guitar stylists.
