Governor General to Officially Launch Winterlude 2009
OTTAWA, ONTARIO — 02/03/09 — Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will launch the 31st edition of Winterlude. The opening ceremony will take place on Friday, February 6, 2009, at 7 p.m., at the Snowbowl stage, located on the Rideau Canal Skateway.During the ceremony, Her Excellency will deliver remarks and break the ice ribbon to officially launch the celebrations and activities planned throughout Canada’s capital region. The ceremony will be followed by the presentation of Ukiuk, a new Sound and Light Show celebrating winter, and a performance by six-time Juno award winner Colin James.
