Esperanza Spalding continued to write the next chapter in the living history of jazz with her Radio Music Society at Jazzfest on Wednesday night.
Rarely has music so firmly and faithfully rooted in such a rich tradition been so perfectly of, and beyond, its own time.
And rarely has music so daring and adventurous been delivered with such charisma, its inherent complexities polished to the point where nothing is lost in translation, and even the most confounding puzzle pieces seem to fit with ease.
