City to negotiate for parkland in Carp, Manotick
Theresa Fritz, EMC
According to Ward 5 West Carleton-March councillor Eli El-Chantiry, staff has been directed to enter into negotiations to purchase property in the heart of the village of Carp on Langstaff Drive. These lands are known locally as the Honeywell lands involving two landowners, adjacent to city-owned property and the Carp Agricultural Society Fairgrounds.
As well as allowing for expanded recreational opportunities, owning the land allows the city to have greater flexibility of uses working with the Carp Fair Board.
“After we purchase the land, we will have a joint study with the recreation staff and agricultural society to plan for the future of recreation and the Carp Fair,” El-Chantiry noted, adding there is also the proposed Heritage Park to consider.
“I want the Carp Fair to stay here for a long time,” he stated.
