Capital Vélo Fest is proud to announce the launch of Capital Vélo Rally on Saturday, September 15, 2012, in partnership with 8 Locks’ Flat restaurant.
Capital Vélo Rally is a fun way to explore the capital region on a bike.
The route will guide participants along low-traffic streets and bike paths. Riders must search for the answers to quirky clues and quizzes and test their cycling skills in zany cycling competitions along the way. The rally starts at 9:00am at 8 Locks’ Flat restaurant on the Rideau Canal near the Corkstown footbridge, and will be completed by 3:00pm. The route is about 20km in length and returns to the restaurant for food, beverages and the awarding of prizes to winning teams. The format is similar to a traditional car rally, but people travel by bike!
To participate, cyclists should form a team of 3-6 people and must register in advance online. Solo riders can also register and be added to an existing team. Registration is limited to 150 riders and is expected to quickly sell out. Registration is $20 and includes the unique Capital Vélo Rally experience, food and beverages from 8 Locks’Flat, and the opportunity to win prizes. People interested in joining the fun should visit www.CapitalVeloFest.ca to register and get more information about the event.
Although not strictly part of Sustainable Transportation Week (September 16-22), Capital Vélo Rally will provide a fascinating and fun activity to encourage people to cycle in the region. The route will take people along lesser-travelled bike paths and streets, and make them aware of safe and interesting routes to travel by bike in both Ottawa and Gatineau.
