Bluesfest coming back to Byward Market

The Cisco Systems Bluesfest is in the Market for music. Festival director Mark Monahan said yesterday fans will see a bigger lineup of concerts on the Bluesfest Byward Market stage this summer if he gets the $1.8 million he’s applied for from the federal government’s Marquee Tourism Events program to promote major cultural events.

“We have every intention of doing it again this year, exactly like last year,” he said. “The series was a success for the festival and for our partner clubs in the Market.

“We saw a substantial increase in our out-of-town tourism.”
