Bluesfest books two stops on Thorogood’s Canadian Tour: George Thorogood to play NAC and K-Rock Centre

November 16, 2009 · Filed Under Festival News, News

Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest officials today confirmed that George Thorogood & The Destroyers will be performing at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and at Kingston’s K-Rock Centre on May 29 and May 30, respectively. The concerts will be produced and presented by the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest organization.

While many bands change sounds as the music scene evolves, George Thorogood & the Destroyers stay the course. They know who they are and they’re out to tell the world about it. Faithful to their blues roots, they’ve continued to play the rough and tough sounds that draw from the influences of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf. Nearly 30 years of performing have been marked with hits that include Bad To The Bone, Move It On Over, Willie And The Hand Jive, and his famous live renditions of Who Do You Love?, Johnny B. Goode, Reelin’ And Rockin’, and St. Louis Blues.

When the band rocks in concert, there’s a lively chemistry that’s instantly identifiable. If Thorogood’s signature guitar licks and trademark vocals seem infused with more passion than ever before, so too do the contributions of his stalwart rhythm section comprised of drummer Jeff Simon and bassist Bill Blough. Sax demon Buddy Leach blows like a hurricane, while guitarist Jim Suhler adds a crucial dynamic that reflects why he has become a permanent and valuable addition to the Destroyers.

Thankfully George Thorogood is still going strong and fans young and old, in both Ottawa and Kingston, will have a chance to catch that strength ‘live and in concert’ this spring.

Doors open at 7 p.m., opening act at 8 p.m., and Thorogood concert at 9 p.m. at both venues. Tickets are available beginning Friday, November 20 at Ticketmaster: www.ticketmaster.ca and at both the NAC and K-Rock Centre.
