Assistant Director of Sales – Ottawa Tourism

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SALES

Reporting to the Director of Meetings & Events, the Assistant Director of Sales is responsible for managing an assigned market, as well as assisting the Director in supporting the day to day activities of the meetings team.  We are looking for candidates with strong leadership skills, extensive meetings industry involvement and a sales representative that thrives in a competitive quick sales cycle environment.  The successful candidate will play a fundamental role in contributing to our aggressive event, delegate and room night growth objectives.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Degree in Business Administration or relevant discipline
  •  Minimum 5 years’ experience in senior convention sales position
  •  Proven sales productivity record and strong customer service focus
  •  Leadership experience
  •  Strong leadership, budget management and administrative skills
  •  Highly developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  •  Ability to work with limited supervision, multi-task and meet annual goals
  •  Available for travel and for activities outside of regular working hours

ASSETS

  • Knowledge of the tourism industry
  • Bilingualism – English/French (asset)

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Assists the Director of Sales with goal setting, accountability, team-building and motivation
  • Creates and implements convention sales and servicing strategies and tactics to promote and sell the destination world-wide
  • Develops and implements performance measurement systems to monitor and report on the effectiveness of sales programs and activities
  •  Identify professional development opportunities for the team
  • Continuous coaching and mentoring of the team
  • Nurture and maintain excellent partner relations
  • Brings a creative vision to the team and organization
  • Cultivate and maintain accounts
  • Travel and support team as required to industry shows/events worldwide
  • Build brand awareness, identify accounts with opportunities for our members, document and track results
  • Manage assignments as outlined in our annual sales and marketing plan and oversee associated budgets
  • Generate leads, close business and prepare customized bid proposals and conduct bid presentations
  • Plan & host client site inspections and familiarization tours
  • Onboarding of new team members
