VERSeFest, Ottawa’s International Poetry Festival, returns for its tenth anniversary edition March 24 – 29, 2020, showcasing 80 poets in English and French through readings, lectures, workshops, panels, music, and cinematic experiences. Over six days, the festival will welcome page and spoken word poets from seven provinces across Canada and six different countries – crossing genres, cultures, and international boundaries.
Headliners include Gwen Benaway, an award-winning Anishinaabe and Métis poet; Angye Goana, a Columbian poet and activist; Brandon Wint, a national champion slam poet; Jean Marc Dalpé, a three-time winner of the Governor General’s award; Karen Solie, a lyrical poet who subverts the expected; and Sheree Fitch, a celebrated children’s author. Éric Charlebois serves as this year’s Poet in Residence.
Performance and poetry blend in several multimedia events: Amélie Prévost and Queen Ka will be staging a unique poetic experience; duo MC Kuf Knotz and harpist Christine Elise will be weaving stories through poetry and music; Oana Avasilichioaei and Kaie Kellough will be experimenting with sound; and Tom Konyves, a videopoem pioneer, will be presenting three groundbreaking pieces.
