Rachel Browne, the founder of the longest standing contemporary dance company in the country, Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers (WCD), has passed away.
Known as the matriarch of the Winnipeg dance community, Browne was attending the Canada Dance Festival when she died suddenly.
She was in Ottawa to oversee a performance of students from The School of Contemporary Dancers of Winnipeg on Tuesday and to attend the performance of Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers in Brent Lott’s 97 Positions of the Heart on Wednesday. Lott is the current Artistic Director of Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers (or WCD).
