Memorial park pays tribute to fallen firefighters
We would certainly like to join the rest of the community to recognize the tremendous courage and commitment shown by the many Firefighters in our region. We applaud City of Ottawa Councillors who, three years ago, approved this memorial park dedicated to the men and women who make every effort to keep us safe.

Eight years after Dawson McVeetors decided the city’s fallen firefighters should be recognized, a memorial park was unveiled Friday at the city’s annual memorial service for firefighters who have died.
“At first we were offered a tree with a plaque on it, and then we were offered a plaque to go on a wall,” said McVeetors, a 42-and-a-half-year retired veteran of the Ottawa Fire Service and president of the Ottawa Fire Fighters Community Foundation.
“Then, when I was presented with the opportunity of this site, I was just speechless.”
Acting Fire Chief Jim Ullett and Mayor Larry O’Brien cut the red ribbon of the Ottawa Fire Fighters Memorial Park on Friday afternoon, just over three years after the park was approved by city council.
